Sylvia Marcinko Chai is the only American that has been invited to perform an organ recital in North Church, a historic Catholic Church and at present the largest in Beijing, China. In the United States she has performed from coast to coast, as well as in Europe.
Sylvia Marcinko Chai received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Redlands in Redlands, California. She is a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists (CAGO). Her piano teacher Rosalma van Patten was a student of a student of Franz Liszt. In addition to early studies, Sylvia has studied privately with concert organists Claire Coci, Alan Morrison, and Walter Hilse.
Sylvia is Director of Music for Chapel services for James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Services are televised in-house as well as throughout the National Spinal Rehabilitation Center. She is the Music Director for Hispanic Services for Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the historic landmark Section of Ybor City. She is also the organist for Seminole Presbyterian Church in Tampa.
Sylvia has been the featured guest on “Sounds from the Spires” a weekly broadcast on Sirius satellite radio. She has appeared many times on Tampa Bay television including six months of televised masses from Our Lady of Perpetual Help on AztecaAmerica. She is a feature writer for Slovakia magazine, The Good Shepherd, Jednota, and Pastoral Music as well as a freelance writer with works appearing in many other publications.
