Baritone James Allen Williams recently completed his first year of study as a choral music education major in the music department of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, where voice is his performance emphasis, studying with Dr. Mark Carlisle. A member of the Indiana State University Chorale, James was also selected for membership in the “elite” Sycamore Singers, an auditioned “specialty” ensemble under the direction of Dr. Scott Bucannon.
James’ love for classical singing, both solo and choral, is only slightly eclipsed by his love for musical theater. He has shared his talents as a soloist and chorister in several southern Indiana churches. James has a love for choral singing that fills his soul and his passion to share by singing in choirs is welcomed. His singing of solos in various styles in several local churches, has provided opportunities to share his vocal talents throughout the community.
In the area of musical theater, James has appeared in several community theater productions, including Zombie Prom, The Addams Family, and Into the Woods, where he played the leading role of Jack (of Beanstalk fame)!
Prior to beginning his music degree, James was a voice student of David K. Lamb, where he performed vocal solos in community presentations including in “Musicals that Sing”, a 2022 presentation of the Hedden Music Club of New Albany, Indiana. While in high school, James was selected by audition for the Indiana All-State Honors Choir for two years, and he was honored numerous times with Gold medals for both solos and ensemble presentations at festivals sponsored by the Indiana School Music Association.
