Montreal-native Denis Gagné studied with Yves-G. Préfontaine and Hélène Panneton, and then with Jean LeBuis and Suzanne Goyette at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal.
During his musical training, Gagné took part in several master classes with Hervé Niquet, Gabriel Marghieri and Jean-Guy Proulx. He was the recipient of scholarship grants from the McAbbie Foundation for the excellence in organ playing and from Les Amis de l’Orgue de Rimouski.
With about 200 concerts to his credit, Denis Gagné is one of the most in demand Quebecois organists of his generation. He was invited by numerous festivals to perform on major organs in Quebec, Ontario and New-Brunswick. He has also played several inaugural concerts.
In France, he played recitals at Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet, Saint-Jean-Bosco, Saint-Eustache and Notre-Dame de Paris, at the Cathedral in Angers, in Verneuil-sur-Avre (5th Festival Franco-Québecois), Lille, Narbonne and Luxembourg.
As an accompanist, he has collaborated with most of the renowned choirs of Montréal. At the Montréal Opéra, he played the organ in Gounod’s Faust with the Orchestre Métropolitain, under Emmanuel Plasson’s baton.
He is deeply involved in showcasing the large French repertoire for voice & organ and the sacred music composed in the province of Quebec from 1850 to 1950. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Les Amis de l’Orgue de Montréal.
As a church musician, Denis Gagné has held the position of organist and musical director at the Sanctuaire Saint-Sacrement de Montréal for 12 years. He is today the musical director at the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in Laval and is the co-titular organist at the Italian parish of Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel in Montreal.
