Jordan DeRouen was born in DeRidder, Louisiana, in 1991. His lifelong love of church music began at an early age. At age seven, he began studying piano with Debbie Adcock, later studying with Penny Lack, with additional coaching with Sheila Manning. At age thirteen, Jordan picked up an avid interest in the organ and began studying with Dr. Fred Sahlmann, professor emeritus of piano and organ at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Jordan earned his Bachelors of Sacred Music at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he studied organ with Dr. Mary de Ville, and piano with Dr. Christine Allen. He gained experience accompanying for choral and instrumental groups at NSU on both piano and organ. In addition to his studies at Northwestern State, Jordan studied organ improvisation with E. Ray Peebles in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jordan then received the Master of Music in Organ Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, studying with concert artist Stefan Engels. Jordan has also participated in the French Organ Music Seminar (FOMS), where he was able to receive instruction from some of the most influential organists in the world such as Louis Robillard, Sophie-Véronique Choplin, Frédéric Blanc, François Espinasse, Jean-Baptiste Robin, and Olivier Latry. Additionally, he received a scholarship award for composing a piece for a competition which FOMS held in 2014. This included the privilege of premiering the composition in Spain in the Summer of 2015.
Mr. DeRouen has served as Director of Music and Organist for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zwolle, Louisiana, Organist for the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and Organist-Choirmaster for St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Louisiana.
