Paul Carr is a busy organist and recitalist, accompanist, choral director and teacher based in Birmingham, UK. He studied organ with Dr Roy Massey MBE at Hereford Cathedral and Professor David Saint at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he was also awarded Honorary Membership in 2015.
Paul has performed on many of the finest instruments in the UK at cathedrals, abbeys, minsters, churches, concert halls, town halls and palaces. He has performed in Germany, including three Angelus Concerts at St Lamberti in Münster and twice in the Orgelpunkt series at Magdeburg Cathedral. In France, he has given two organ recitals at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, most recently in 2017 and there have been several visits to the USA, where Paul has performed solo recitals both in and around Chicago and at Washington National Cathedral. In 2016 he played one of the dedication concerts on the new 5-manual Quimby organ in Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago.
For more than twenty years, Paul has given monthly organ recitals in England: in addition to performing in his current series Sunday Afternoon Organ Music, he can be heard at St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham where each year he plays around half of the recitals in the monthly Thursday Live series, where he also recorded his critically acclaimed début solo CD French Flavours.
Paul has worked extensively as choral accompanist, and is regularly engaged with visiting choirs in cathedrals around the UK. He has toured with choirs to France, Germany, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and the USA.
Following thirteen years as Director of Music of St Paul’s church in central Birmingham, Paul currently serves in the Midlands area as Musician in Residence at Holy Trinity Parish Church Wordsley, Director of Music to The St Ignatius Singers, Organist to St. Bartholomew’s Church Penn and Musical Director of Selly Park Singers.
