Dr. Su-Ryeon Ji, known for her exciting, captivating and sensitive performances, is considered one of the leading organist in her generation. A native of South Korea, she has performed extensively throughout the United States, in Europe and in her home country.
Her reputation as an excellent, accomplished organist has resulted in invitations to play in prestigious venues such as the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles, the Bach Festival at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, the Atlanta Summer Organ Festival and the national and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists.
Dr. Ji earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in Organ Performance from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where she had a full fellowship for study with Cherry Rhodes. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Organ Performance and the Graduate Certificate from the same university, studying with Ms. Rhodes and Dr. Ladd Thomas. She was selected to join PI KAPPA LAMBDA, a highly-selective national music honor society which recognizes the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship.
After completing her Master’s degree, she studied with Jacque van Oortmerssen at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where she explored and played various historic organs such as St. Bavo, Waalse Kerk, Oude Kerk and many others in Europe. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Organ Performance was earned at the University of Texas at Austin with Dr. Frank Speller.
Dr. Ji was awarded first place in the American Guild of Organists Regional Competition for Young Organists. Subsequently, she was invited to perform at the AGO National Convention, which was later broadcast nationwide. She has served as an organ faculty member at the Sacred Music Institute in South Korea.
Currently, Dr. Ji is Director of Music and Cathedral Organist at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, Georgia, while her concert performances take her throughout the United States and in Europe and South Korea.
