The Sunday Afternoon Kilgen Organ Recital Series features organists from all over the world every season. Due to the high number of requests to play on our Series, there is an extensive waiting list.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Cathedral gives guest organists a small stipend for their performance
The performer is solely responsible for all travel, hotel accommodations, transportation to and from Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and for meal expenses incurred
Recitals usually take place from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM (15:00-15:30)
Some recitals may have to be scheduled from 3:15 PM to 3:45 PM (15:15-15:45)
Proposed programs must be tailored for a general audience
Recitals are streamed live and archived on the cathedral’s web site
Practice on the Gallery Organ is from approximately 6:15 PM (18:15) onwards on the Saturday evening before the date of the performance
Selling tickets, CDs and DVDs is not allowed
The performer must agree to hold harmless Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, its staff, and the Archdiocese of New York from any and all claims of action for streaming your recital and archiving it on its web site
ELIGIBILITY:
Open to artists who have an active career as concert organist
Open to organ students who have achieved recognition for their talent and ability in public performance
Applicants must be able to understand and have sufficient fluency in the English language to understand these terms and all practical instructions
Applicants must know how to register a large pipe organ and must register the program themselves
Applicants must know how to use a standard combination action—a sequencer is available—and do their own piston changes
The audition video(s) submitted must show the face of the performer clearly
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Quality of supporting materials (at least one recorded video and the curriculum vitæ of the performer) that demonstrate singular musical and programming talent
Attractiveness of the proposed program for a general public
Thorough responses and accuracy of proposed program’s timing
