For more than 30 years, the Our Neighbors Program serves a number of older adults living in the New York City community. To help meet the social needs of these older adults, the program’s weekly luncheon offers an opportunity for them to come together as a community.
Activities are available before and after the meal and generally include a light exercise program, a lecture or workshop on a topic of interest to the participants or musical entertainment or a movie and bridge.
When possible, volunteers provide friendly visiting and on occasion provide escort service to doctor appointments. In addition, outings in the spring and fall are planned to places of interest.
The luncheon program runs from mid-September to mid-December and from February through mid-June.
